Engelbart’s original design featured a wooden shell and two metal wheels that allowed the mouse to move in any direction. – The term “mouse” was coined by Engelbart’s colleague, Bill English, who thought the device resembled a rodent with a tail. Interestingly, the plural form of “mouse” is not “mouses” but “mice,” even when referring to computer mice.

– The first computer mouse was not the familiar handheld device we know today. It was a bulky and expensive device called the “X-Y Position Indicator for a Display System.” It used a series of wheels and gears to track movement and was primarily used for military and industrial purposes. It wasn’t until the 1980s that the mouse became smaller, more affordable, and widely adopted for personal computers.
